BONO (SEVEN GHOSTS) NATURAL MYSTERY FROM RIAU
BONO (SEVEN
GHOSTS) NATURAL MYSTERY FROM RIAU
Bono is a wave or wave that occurs in Kampar River
Estuary, Pelalawan Regency,
Riau Province,
Indonesia.
Waves Bono Kampar River is a natural phenomenon due to the confluence of
streams flowing into the sea and ocean currents that enter the river due to
tides.
Usually the waves occur only on the
shore or the sea or a large lake due to changes in water and wind currents. The
waves are large enough to be used for surfing. So, if you see people surfing on
the beach is an ordinary thing. But seeing people surfing in the stream is a
great thing.
Biggest bono usually occurs when the
rainy season where the Kampar River water discharge is large enough around
November and December.
Legend
Bono is actually located in two locations
in Riau Province namely in Muara (Kuala) Sungai Kampar Pelalawan District and
in Muara ( Kuala) Rokan River
in Rokan Hilir
District . Local people call Bono in Kuala Kampar as BONO JANTAN
because it is bigger, while Bono in Kuala Rokan as BONO BETINA because it is
smaller.
According to the residents' trust,
the bono wave in the kampar river is bono males, while the bono females are in
the Rokan River area, close to Bagansiapi-api City. Bono in kuala kampar
amounted to seven tails, which look like a horse commonly called the parent
Bono. In the high tide of death, this bono will go to Rokan River to meet bono
females. Then relax towards the strait of Malacca. That is why when the moon is
small and the pairs are dead, bono is not found in the two rivers. If the moon
starts big, go back bono to each place, then play memudiki Kampar river and
Rokan river. The fuller the moon in the sky, the happier bono racing memudiki
both rivers.
The Bono River estuary called
residents as KUALA KAMPAR has Bono waves which can reach a height of 6-10
meters contained state at the time of the incident. According to the old Malay
story titled Sentadu Gunung Laut), every coastal Malay swordsman must be able
to conquer Bono's waves to improve their fighting skills. This can make sense
because "riding" Bono is essentially balancing the body, beyond the
mystical problem.
In the past, because there is still
a mystical nature in the location, then to ride Bono must be with
"semah" ceremony conducted in the morning or afternoon. The ceremony
is led by BOMO or Datuk or village elders with the intention that Bono riders
always get safety and be kept away from any distress. In addition there is a
mystical story (maybe) associated with the wave of this Bono is a story about
FLOOD BLOOD IN CONCRETE or BLOOD WITH BLOOD and the formation of Pelalawan
Kingdom 1822 AD.
Now, people around Kuala Kampar
regard Bono as "a friend of nature". Brave residents will
"ride" Bono with their boats not by using surfboards in general. Riding
the canoe over the waves of Bono becomes an activity of dexterity. But this
activity has a high risk because when one drove a boat, the boat can be crushed
by the waves of Bono, not infrequently the boat collapsed into pieces.
Waves of Seven Ghosts
The surrounding community has
special story stories related to the bono wave. There are many stories and
beliefs from local people that make this rare natural event more special. According
to the story of the old Malay society, the waves of Bono occurred because of
the embodiment of 7 (seven) ghosts that often destroyed the boats and ships
that crossed Kuala Kampar. This huge waves are so frightening to the people
that to pass it must be held ceremony of semah as mentioned above. This waves
are very deadly when the boat or boat facing him. Not infrequently the boat was
destroyed to pieces in the waves crashed or destroyed because it hit the river
bank. Not a few ships are turned back and drowned caused.
According to the story of the
community, formerly this roll of waves amounted to 7 (seven) large waves of 7
ghosts. When during the Dutch colonial period, Dutch transport ships were
having difficulties entering Kuala Kampar due to this wave. One of the Dutch
commanders ordered to shoot with the big waves. Either by accident or by
something else, one of the big waves that had been shot by the Dutch guns had
never appeared again until now. So now there are only 6 (six) large winding
waves of Bono waves.
Seven Ghosts are 7 waves of Bono
with the 1st formation in front and followed by 6 waves behind it. Because one
of the biggest waves had been destroyed by the Dutch so the big waves of Bono
only left 6 waves with almost parallel formations entering Kuala Kampar. Regarding
the Dutch ship and its people have not been found until now.
Scientific Review
Bono Wave or Bono Wave or Bono Wave
which is a natural phenomenon, it can be simply stated that the occurrence of
Bono Waves is the meeting of the tidal currents with the river flow from
upstream to the estuary (downstream). In the study of Environmental Fluid Mechanics
(Environmental Fluid Mechanics
), Bono called Tidal bore
or bore / Aegir / eagre / eygre. Scientifically, the bono wave is one of
nature's events that is quite rare and rare. Where we will see a big wave that
is just like happening in the middle of the sea, but this happens in a
freshwater river. Bono wave occurred due to collision of three streams of water
coming from the Melaka Strait
, South China Sea
and Kampar River water flow. As a result of this collision, the water wave at
the Kampar estuary can reach a height of 4-5 meters marked previously with a
great roar. This is a scientific phenomenon that only intellectuals will
believe .
The Cause of Wave Bono
Bono waves or sometimes also called
Bono Wave (Bono Wave) occurs when the occurrence of pairs (tide up) that
occurred in the sea entering the Kampar River. The speed of Kampar River water
towards the sea collides with the flow of sea water entering the Kampar River. Clash
of the two currents that cause the wave or wave. Bono will occur only when the
tide is high. And it will become even bigger if at sea time have big tide (big
moon) accompanied by heavy rain in upstream Kampar River. The rapid flow of
rivers due to rain will collide with the swift tide of sea water that goes to
Kuala Kampar.
Factors Cause the Incidence of Bono
Waves :
·
River water flow to the estuary
·
Rain
·
Tide
·
Month position
·
High low water depth
·
The environment of the watershed
forest (DAS)
Schedule of Bono
Bono usually occurs on every 13-18
(moon) months in the calculation of the Hijri calendar
(residents call it the Malay month and the Arabic year). Residents call it the
"Big Month" or " Full Moon
". Usually a large wave of Bono or Ombak Bono occurred on 13-16 months of
the Malay Arab years. The waves that occur will usually be white and brown
following the color of Kuala Kampar water. In addition, Bono also occurs in
every "dead month" ie the end of the month and the beginning of the
month (date 1) Year Arabic / Hijriyah.

THE TALE
AND MYTH OF THE ORIGIN OF BONO WAVES
ON KAMPAR
RIVER, RIAU PROVINCE
Scientifically, the bono wave is one
of nature's events that is quite rare and rare. Where we will see a big wave
that is just like happening in the middle of the sea, but this happens in a
freshwater river. Bono wave occurred due to collision of three streams of water
coming from the Strait of Melaka, South China Sea and Kampar River Water flow. As
a result of this collision, the water wave at the Kampar estuary can reach a
height of 4-5 meters marked previously with a great roar. This is a scientific
phenomenon that only intellectuals will believe. But you know, the surrounding
community has a special fairy tale related to the wave bono it? There are many
stories and beliefs from local people that make this rare natural event more
special.
For residents of Kuala Kampar area,
bono had known them since childhood. Because that's not strange, if children,
adolescents and adults also consider bono as his best friend, where they play
agility riding Bono or called Bekudo Bono using boats (dinghy)
small. Usually bono playground for local residents is in places where bono is
not too big or in children Kampar River that has Bono, such as River Sangar,
Turip, Serkap, Poles and Kerumutan River. This game is big risk, because if
miscalculated the boat can be thrown bono to the cliff so destroyed. But from experience
since childhood, they, these bono players already know very well where a safe
place to play bono.
Formerly, the game bono is often
done by first holding a particular ceremony to ensure the safety of the
players. The ceremony is called 'semah' which must be done morning or
afternoon. The ceremony is led by a 'Bomo' or Datuk or the elders of the
village. This is done so that bono riders get safety while riding bono, and
kept away from all dangers. In addition, there is also a mystical story associated
with the waves of bono is a story about the blood flood in the compilation or
berkusun blood, and the formation of Keralas n Pelalawan in 1822 AD
Malay warriors are said to have
often been challenged and tested their dexterity by riding the bono wave. Who
succeeded in conquering such a powerful wave would be considered as a powerful
figure and has the best power. Another story mentions that once this roll of
waves amounted to 7 (seven) large waves of 7 ghosts. When during the Dutch
colonial period, Dutch transport ships were having difficulties entering Kuala
Kampar due to this wave. One of the Dutch commanders ordered to shoot with the
big waves. Either by accident or by something else, one of the big waves that
had been shot by the Dutch guns had never appeared again until now. So now
there are only 6 (six) rolls of waves Bono wave.
But then became a regular game and
can be executed at will. But this game is only done during the day, while the
night no matter how brave they are, no one has dared to try it. This is because
the risks are quite large. If you are afraid or horrified to join the boat
playing bono, you can see bono from land only. But If dare please play bono
with small boats that many there. The important thing is you must be good at
swimming, and ride the bono. This game is similar to surfing on the waves on
the beach, because the place is wide and the challenge is quite big.
BONO or Bono Wave is a natural
phenomenon that usually occurs because of the meeting of tidal currents with
the river flow from upstream to downstream. Natural events are fairly unique
and interesting. Tourists can watch it when the tidal wave arrives. Tidal waves
usually occur every 10 "20 in the calculation of the Malay month (Arab),
or by local people often called the big moon" occurs at the time of full
moon. At the time of the dead tide (small moon), Bono is almost nonexistent; if
there is only a small ripple in a shallow place.
Another uniqueness that can be
witnessed by tourists is when the sea water entered and met with the flow of
the river there was a wave with high speed accompanied by the thunder like the
sound of thunder and the wind hembah fast. If the high tide season, the wave
can reach 4 to 6 meters with a speed of about 40 km per hour. Wave called bono
is moving from the direction of the mouth upstream munuju until it reaches tens
of kilometers from its estuary.
For people in Kuala Kampar area,
Bono is a familiar event. These natural events have been known for a long time
and have been so close and familiar with their lives. In fact, people in this
area consider Bono as a friend . They often take advantage of Bono as a means of
compete in playing the boat on it. Indeed, this game has a risk that is too
high, because if miscalculated, boats can be crushed Bono down to the cliff
until destroyed.
In the past, the boat game above
Bono by Kuala Kampar community was often done with certain ceremonies and
performed in the morning or afternoon. However, today the game has become a
regular game and can be done at will.
The process of the occurrence of
Waves Bono
Bono waves that occur in the Kampar
River occurs usually at high tide occurs in the sea. The tide then goes to
Kampar River. Furthermore, the speed of the current in Kampar River will
collide with the rising tide from the sea so that there is a wave called the
Bono Wave. Bono will only happen when the tide, the greater the tide that
occurs in the sea, then the possibility of Bono Wave that happens will be even
greater. Rainfall factors that will increase the flow of river water will also
affect the magnitude of Bono waves that are formed. Can be imagined if the
conditions of high rainfall and high tide in the sea is large, then the
condition of Bono Wave will also be even greater.
Prior to the Bono wave, it usually
starts with a sound like a whistle, then a roar of water will be heard. The
roar sounds the longer it gets louder and comes the big waves called the Bono
Wave. The speed of the waves of Bono reaches 40 km / h. The waves are able to
enter the river upstream miles and miles away. Usually capable of reaching
distance of about 60 km upstream and will end in Tanjung Pungai area. The
number of Bono waves is quite a lot and go hand in hand. Sometimes on the banks
of the river and sometimes can also occur in the middle of the river. The biggest
bono will usually occur when the rainy season arrives, where the Kampar River
water discharge will rise. On a matter of months will usually occur in November
and December.
According to the surrounding
community, Bono will usually occur on every 10-20 month Malay Arabic year, or
commonly referred to as 'Bulan Besar' or 'Bulan Purnama'. As for the big Bono
waves will usually occur on the 13-16 months of the Malay Arab years. The
formed waves are generally white and brown, according to the color of the river
water. Bono will also occur on any 'dead month' or end of month and beginning
of month of the Arab year.
Actually into the river around the
occurrence of Bono wave is not deep. Only about 1 to 2 meters away, with
certain plot sections that have a depth of about 10 to 15 meters as the vessel
transport passage. Due to the existence of Bono, the groove is often moved. So
for the ships that pass through this area must use people who know the flow of
the river, or so-called Tekong.
Bono waves will usually occur at the mouth of the river whose condition is wide and shallow then narrowed after being in the river. The shape of the flooding river mouth resembles the letter "V" or a funnel. Furthermore, it will be supported by the prevailing river condition due to natural erosion. The meeting of two currents of river and sea currents at this location will cause Bono Wave. However, not all shallow V-shaped creases will trigger Tidal Bore. Because other things are also influenced by the high tidal factor of sea water.

THERE ARE SEVEN HEAD OF BONO
Phenomenon of Bono Kuala Kampar -
Riau. In my childhood, the authors were brought by your father Janib,
and Sirajuddin's brother, farmed at Tanjung Pebilah and then on Mudo Island,
precisely in 1969 to 1974. In mid-1974, the writer moved to Airtiris, to MTI
school. Raanah. From the Channel, the writer boarded a small boat
called a pompon. The journey is 2 to three days, through the village of
Teratak Buluh. The authors boarded a pompong or motor boat, then
anchored in one of the ports of Kuala Kampar (Panduk, Pulau Muda etc.) before
the tide arrives (big tide) there will be a roar, the closer the more clearly
the roar. But do not expect the roar to sound the storm, storm or rain
but it is the roar of Kampar river that is in the form of big waves, Kampar river with a terrible speed.
In high tide season, the wave height
can reach four to six meters, stretching from across to the other side of the
river. Indeed, an awful but also exciting panorama, that's what BONO is.
The inhabitants of the downstream Kampar river, or people who have passed
through this area must have seen Bono, because Bono came with tide, day and
night, especially during the full moon season and between 10 and 20 months of
Malay. When the dead pairs (small moon) Bono can be labeled no, if there
is only a small ripple in a very shallow place.
ANALYSIS OF THE MYSTERY OF BONO
Myths and Stories About Bono
It is said that Bono in the river
Kampar is Bono male and Bono females are in the Rokan river near
Bagansiapi-api. Bono in kuala kampar is seven tail, the shape is similar to the
horse called the parent Bono. In the dead tide, Bono goes to the Rokan river to
meet Bono the female, then relax towards the strait of Malacca. That is why
when the moon is small and the pairs are dead, Bono is not found both rivers. If
the moon starts big, go back to Bono to each place, then play the river Kampar

from experience since childhood, they, these Bono players already know very
well where a safe place to play bono.
In the past, Bono games are often
done with certain ceremonies, but then become a regular game and can be carried
out at will. But this game is only done during the day, while the night no
matter how brave they are, no one has tried it.
If you are afraid or horrified to
join the boat playing Bono, you can watch Bono from the land. But if you dare
to play Bono with the small boats that are widely there. The important thing is
you must be good at swimming, as well as riding the Bono. This game is similar
to surfing on the waves on the beach, because the place is wide and the
challenge is quite big.
In Malaysia the so-called BENAK is
Muak Sungai Batang Lupar Sri Aman Sarawak. On the River Kent England is
called The Arnside Bore, and there is also called it Aegir. On the River Severn
England is called The Severn Bore. On the Amazon River and the surrounding
rivers are called Pororoca. While Benak is the name Bono in
Sungai Batang Lupar Sarawak Malaysia. Regarding other Bono Locations in the
world, it can be read on the article: Bono / Tidal Bore Location in the World
CAUSE AND TIME OF OMBAK BONO Bono or Bono Wave sometimes occurs when the
occurrence of high tides the sea enters Kampar River. The speed of Kampar River
water towards the sea collides with the flow of sea water entering the Kampar
River. Clash of the two currents that cause the wave or wave. Bono will occur
only when the tide is high.
SCIENTIFIC REVIEW OF OMBAK BONO
Bono usually occurs in the wide and
shallow estuary of the river and then narrows or buds after being in the river.
The shape of a river mouth that is similar to the letter "V" or
funnel is supported by the condition of the river that degrade due to natural
erosion causing the meeting of tidal waters with river water finally formed
Bono or Tidal Bore. But not all the shallow V-shaped estuaries can occur Tidal
Bore. Because influenced one of them by the high tidal factor of sea water.
Tidal Bore is regarded as a natural phenomenon in the field of hydrodynamics
which is closely related to the movement of the water mass.
The greater the Bono or Tidal Bore,
the greater the damage. Quoted from Wikipedia: A tidal bore (or simply bore in
context, or also aegir, eagre, or eygre) is a tidal phenomenon in which the
leading edge of the incoming tide forms a wave (or waves) of water that travels
up a river or narrow bay against the direction of the river or bay's current.
Quoted from Bambang Yulistiyanto: The ups and downs in the Kampar River Estuary
have a wave height of about 4 m (Deshidros, 2006). The tides are in the form of
tidal Mixed Condong to Double Daily, where in 1 day occurs two times and two
times receded with the first and second tidal height is different. Tidal wave
period is about 12 hours 25 minutes. In the Kampar River, the river mouth is
shaped like a "V" letter, the mass of water entering through the
mouth of the wide bay is then retained, until the tidal water fills the
estuary.
The collected water mass is then
pushed upstream causing a kind of strong pressure effect as it passes a
constantly narrow and shallow area at the mouth of the bay. This situation led
to varying waves in the upper bay, from only small waves up to several meters
in height. At the estuary of the Kampar River, the wave velocity can be lower
than the speed of river flow from upstream. This resulted in the delay of tidal
wave movements from the sea, which resulted in the rise of water from the
estuary, thus forming Tidal Bore 'Bono'. Bono waves move upstream to Tanjung
Pungai which is about 60 km from the estuary. Bono that creeps upstream through
the flow of the narrowing of the river. When passing through Pulau Muda, the
tide is separated into two, partly through the path on the left, and partly
through the path to the right of Young Island.
At the separate Bono Separation
Head, meeting each other, generating momentum that resulted in Bono Waves
getting bigger. Locals call this incident as 'Bono who clap'. At Tanjung
Pemilahan, Bono Bono was the greatest. Location of Waves Bono Kampar / Tidal

KAMPAR.
The river Bono called the population
as KUALA KAMPAR has Bono waves that can reach a height of 6-10 meters contained
state at the time of the incident. According to the old Malay story titled
Sentadu Gunung Laut), every coastal Malay swordsman must be able to conquer
Bono's waves to improve their fighting skills. This can make sense because
"riding" Bono is essentially balancing the body, beyond the mystical
problem.
Bono waves occur because the
embodiment of 7 (seven) ghosts that often destroy the boat and ship crossing
Kuala Kampar. This huge waves are so frightening to the people that to pass it
must be held ceremony of semah as mentioned above. This waves are very deadly
when the boat or boat facing him. Not infrequently the canoes were crushed to
pieces in the waves or crushed when it hit the river bank.
Not a few ships are turned back and
drowned akibanya. According to the story of the community, formerly this roll
of waves amounted to 7 (seven) large waves of 7 ghosts.
So now
there are only 6 (six) large winding waves of Bono waves.
Bono is actually located in two
locations, namely in Muara (Kuala) Sungai Kampar and in Muara (Kuala) Rokan
River. Local people call Bono in Kuala Kampar as BONO JANTAN because it is
bigger, while Bono in Kuala Rokan as BONO BETINA because it is smaller.
The way to the location of the waves
of Bono is generally done from Pekanbaru City to Pangkalan Kerinci (capital of
Pelalawan Regency) and to Teluk Meranti Village. The trip is done by land
transportation (car, bus, motor). Duration of travel takes between 5 s / d 6
hours depending on road conditions and traffic density. The journey between
Pekanbaru to Pangkalan Kerinci is through the East Cross Road Sumatra about 1-2
hours.
From Pangkalan Kerinci to Simpang
Bunut about 30 minutes and will enter Jalan Lintas Bono to Teluk Meranti
Village which takes about 4-5 hours. Through water transportation can be passed
through Pangkalan Kerinci Harbor which is under Pangkalan Kerinci Bridge. From
the port, can continue the journey by speedboat to the Port of Pulau Muda with
a travel time of 4.5 hours. Can also board the ship that goes to Tanjung Batu
which departs at 11 every day and down at the Port of Teluk Meranti Village.
Lodging is usually still in the community because to see the waves Bono had to
rent a small speed boat to Kuala Kampar. Bono waves do not look so good in
Teluk Meranti Village. Locals can show the location of the best, largest and
longest Bono waves.
